Centrist Reform Alliance
Chūdō Kaikaku Rengō
(2026-)
The party was established on January 16, 2026, by members of the House of Representatives from the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) and Komeito. Its official abbreviated name is Chūdō (“Centrist”).
Ahead of the 51st House of Representatives general election, which was increasingly likely to be held in February 2026, the two parties formed the alliance on a centrist platform as a political counterweight to the Takaichi administration of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its cooperating partner, the Japan Innovation Party.
In the election, the alliance won 49 seats out of a total of 465. This represented a significant decrease from the pre-election strength of 167 seats. As of mid-February, the anticipated participation of affiliated members of the House of Councillors and local assembly members had not yet materialized.
