Yoshinori Ohno was Director General of the Japan Defense Agency (防衛庁) from 2004-2005. As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), he also served in the House of Representatives for Kagawa Prefecture from 1986 to 2012. He chose not to run in the 2012 general election and retired, handing down his electoral district, Kagawa’s 3rd district, to his son Keitarō.
Ohno's website offers recommendations regarding revising the constitution. He states that Japan should change Article 9 in order to expand the role of the Self-Defense Forces, because it needs military alliances with other countries for self-defense. Ohno also thinks that Japan should create laws for environmental protection and protection of personal privacy, reform the prefectural and national government systems, and increase citizens' duties in order to balance citizens' rights and duties.
